-You can downscale higher resolutions on a 1080p Monitor, won't be as good as running on actual, say 1440p, but still better than 1080p, wont need as much AA

-You'll be needing a 144Hz monitor only if your graphics solution will be breaking 144FPS

-You should get a 1440p monitor if your graphics solution can handle it

1440p @ 27" is really a sweet combination.  The ppi just works, and you could get by gaming on like a GTX 960 for example (although you're really gonna have to turn down some games)
