that gave me an idea... OP, you could move the data of some other game off that drive just to give it enough room for it to start the install, and then put it back

NEVERMIND problem fixed, I had Garry's mod installed. (15) GB

Never play that shitty game :P

Thanks anyway, I will do that next time.

Hey, I want to install TF2 on my hard drive, so I moved the TF2 game folder from my steam apps common into my hard drive's steam library.

I know from there, I have to delete the local files in steam for TF2 then install it again. But problem is I only have like 5 GB of space on my HDD, and for some reason steam needs ANOTHER 27 GB of space to "install" Team fortress.

Is there anyway to get around this? I already have the game files on my HDD, so why do I need another 27 GB?

Any help is appreciated.

Assuming you've put it in the right place, if you try to install a game to a library that it already exists in, it will just find it and start verifying.  If I recall correctly...

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

why didn't you just use steam backups/restore.. I'm fairly sure steam isn't like origin .. you can't just drag and drop game folders.

You kind of can.  You can move the data, then uninstall the game (which deletes nothing since you've already taken away its data), then put the data where you are going to install it to, and then "install" it to that location and it just rediscovers the files.

No, you need to install it and THEN it will start finding game files that are already there. But to do that, you need the game's file size X 2 for some reason. It thinks you are going to download it so you need X 2 space

Hm, never noticed that, probably because my space has never been that tight.  Not sure what you can try then... honestly it's ridiculous steam doesn't have a feature to move games between libraries

Yea it works fine if you have loads of space, but I am waiting until I have enough money for a 1 TB mass storage drive. Until then, 650GB just isn't enough for all of my games :(
