Wireless Adapter Recomendation

1 minute ago, Tmt97 said:

Anyone have a recomendation on a wireless adapter? My budget is exactly $30. I really know nothing on networking or wifi, so I'm kinda clueless here.

This one is my go-to for wireless adapters.

Personally I like to use powerline adapters for their lower latency.

what it is and how to use it:

I've heard of it, but it's over budget.

Is it any good? I like the idea, but I don't have much experience personally. Would you say it works better or worse than wifi?

Yup, its better but its over budget. I'm sure theres plenty of networking solutions out there that are better than what I will buy, but unfortunately I can't just make money appear out of thin air because a more expensive solution is better than one in my budget.

But you said your budget was exactly $30?

The one I linked is $29.89.

I'm considering it. I'm somewhat concerned about the antennae connected by the wires. I just KNOW that I will end up destroying it unless its directly attached to the computer. I'll knock it around, the cable will get caught on things, itl fall of the desk, ect... And correct me if I'm wrong, but you cant replace that without replacing the whole adapter.

it is true wifi WILL give you higher speeds as far as bandwidth goes. I use to have a high-end AC wireless adapter and I switched to that.

speed over wifi:

10MB/s both ways (I didn't do a speedtest it was a copy test to my local file server)

~80ms latency

speed over powerline:

5MB/s both ways BUT

~10ms latency

I bought it because latency makes far more of an impact when you are browsing the web and playing games. Bandwidth only matters if you are copying files back and forth all day.

Thanks for that explanation :D Its far more detailed than what I expected, and I can actually make an informed decision based on my personal needs with it.
