G sync??

Go to solution Solved by Minsekt,

you dont need to. but its nice, i cant imagine going to back to a screen without adaptive sync, but.. if i hadnt tried gsync yet i guess i didnt miss it either.

Hey guys, just a quick question, do you think i will need to buy a G sync monitor with my MSI GTX980 TI? I am planning to play many single player games such as the Witcher, MGS5, and the new Tomb raider as well as multiplayer games such as counter strike, The division, Grand Theft Auto.

I am looking at 1440p, 144hz, low response monitors but they seem a bit expensive especially if i buy a 27 inch instead of a 24 inch.

Thanks heaps in advance!:)

Do you think i will get any screen tearing?

sure you will, since you cant saturate 144fps on 1440p all the time. (its hardly noticable even at 144fps, but you can still notice it)

but there are 1080p 144hz gsync monitors on the market too...

Hmm yeah i understand, do you think i will be able to find a reasonably priced monitor, 1440p, 120-144hz, 27 inch, 1-5 response time and like decent color, and not terrible fussed about g sync or not but would be nice?

You could save like 200 bucks going free-sync and either hope nvidia starts to care about freedom, the drivers get hacked so they can use free-sync. Or you could just get an AMD card at some point.

$550 free-sync
https://pcpartpicker.com/part/acer-monitor-xf270hu

$750 G-sync

https://pcpartpicker.com/part/acer-monitor-xb270hubprz

If nothing else you still get a 1440p IPS 144hz display for less with the free-sync one

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

check this list here and look for yourself, i dont know your budget. but benq and eizo have great colors and buildquality.

but personally, i would go only 1440p with gsync. if you cant afford a 1440p/gsync id still prefer 1080p with gsync over 1440p without gsync.

They'll pretty much be forced to support it once Intel jumps on board, and once G-sync fails because it really has no reason for existing, unless they do something crazy and get that light boost thing working in conjunction with it somehow.

What are your thoughts on this? or is the 1080p a deal breaker for this?

(Its in AUD btw)

and the problem with free sync is that i am not going an amd build

its a great display if youre having a model without any production issues light backlight bleed, just make sure you buy it from a shop with good return policy and youre good.

Hmm i getcha, is the image of say like witcher 3 max settings going to not look as good on the 27 inch 1080p? or would it look any better on a smaller monitor size such as this? https://www.pccasegear.com/products/31962/acer-predator-xb240h-24in-144hz-g-sync-gaming-monitor

dont get anything bigger than 24" for 1080p. you can see every pixel on 27" 1080p

it almost looks like if youre playing 720p on a 1080p screen, stupid..
