Powering 2x1440p Displays

xeks

Sorry if this thread is repeated somewhere else but I've honestly searched here and on Google.

Anyways...I've seen many posts elsewhere about tri-1440p displays and using two 780s in SLI but my plans are to only use two 1440p displays (probably going to be QNIX or XSTAR) and was wondering which single card or dual card solution would be best. I will be watercooling them and running slight overclocks so for the time being reference cards would be nice but I'll take any all suggestions.

As for how I'll be using the cards and displays is as such: I'll be gaming (FFXIV, LoL, BF3 or 4, CSGO, and other random games) on one while running misc programs in the other; such as browsers, etc).

My current 470 is on it's way out b/c it is a damned heater in my room and it's already hot enough as is during the summer. :P Also I'll be incrementally buying the two displays and GPU(s) since I'm not a baller haha.

Thanks for your cooperation.

You can get a HD 7970 for cheap right now since 9xxx is coming. Otherwise a GTX 780.

7970 doesn't have 2 dvi connections and that's what those monitors use.

They also don't support active adapters.

I'm pretty sure you can get a 7970 with 2 DVI's

I wouldn't recommend the korean screens as the colors they produce are pretty bad compared to a higher quality IPS screen. http://www.anandtech.com/show/7240/monoprice-zerog-slim-27-ips-monitor-review/2

For a graphics card since the 7970 doesn't have 2 dvi I would just get the gtx 780/s

Powercolor usually don't have the greatest of cooler and seem to have higher failure rates then other brands cards.

It must just be there 7970 since newegg reviews were not the happiest with the card. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131468

Only one Duallink-DVI ...

it doesn't actually need the analog pins so it would work just fine

You only need Dual-link for higher than 60 Hertz

No, you also need Dual-Link DVI for resolutions higher than 1920x1200 ...

Go to wikipedia and learn what Duallink DVI is ;)

DVI-I > digital + analog signal

DVI-D > only digital signal

Both come in single link and dual link congifurations

The second link consists of the 9 pins in the middle of the dvi connector.

Single Link DVI - max resolution 1920x1200 @ 60 Hz

Dual Link DVI - max resolution 2560x1600 @ 60 Hz
