4K Video Lag on YouTube

Hey guys,

Every now and then, when I watch videos on YouTube and change the resolution to 4K, the video would lag/stutter. I am not referring to buffering since my internet connection is capable of streaming 4K videos (50 Mbps). I mainly use Google Chrome. I know it's not my laptop since it has an i7 with a GT 750M and you don't need a lot of power to stream video. I tried h264ify (Chrome extension) and it seemed to make it worse. Sometimes, it's butter smooth and sometimes it's not. Do not think it's my RAM usage as well since I have only a few tabs open at the moment. Any advise?

Thanks

probably the hard drive 5200rpm?

my chromebook can play 4k60fps without lag.

but my desktop with hard drive sometimes struggles.

well with that setup i don't see any issues lol.

if the hdd can't write and read the data fast enough........it can't be displayed.

Check task manager and take a look at CPU useage.

I do that. CPU doesn't really under load

That's odd. It should be. I mean my 4670k  @ 4.4Ghz gets up to 80% cpu useage when i'm watching a 4K video.

It's smooth, but it does require some raw power from your cpu. Maybe something is trying to hardware accelerate it and failing terribly?

Install MSI afterburner and check if a gpu kicks in when you watch a video.

I mean like not full load, but it does reach 65% while watching LTT videos on YouTube.

Tried to make the Nvidia Control Panel use the dedicated GPU to launch Chrome just in case and nothing happened.
