Athlon 640 and R9 380 bottleneck much?

Go to solution Solved by Jack Kaye Pc Gamer,

I have a 750k and a r9 280x and in gta 5, just cause and project cars each game suffers a bottleneck. In gta my gpu usage is only 20%, just cause 30% and project cars 50% ish

Hey everyone, Like it says in the title: Will an AMD Athlon x4 640 bottleneck an R9 380 much?

I know it'll be a bottleneck but I wanna know will it be much, as in a rough estimate from completely unplayable to a lil bottlenck?

Background info: I'm putting together a gaming pc in a few months but was wondering how much an R9 380 would be handicapped by the cpu if I decide to buy the GPU early and just stick it in to do for now.

Thanks in advance for any help, it's greatly appreciated.

would work for now I guess but it will be a major bottleneck. Upgrade the CPU.

Depends on the games you're playing.

There will be a massive bottleneck

CPU: Intel I5 4690K | GPU: Asus R9 280x | PSU: Evga 600w | RAM:8GB DDR3 | HDD: WD 1TB | HDD: WD 500GB | SSD: Sandisk 120GB

This. Some less CPU intensive games will be fine. However, games that utilize a lot of CPU power (Arma 3 or most open world games for that matter) it would start to bottleneck quite heavily.

The low gpu usage results in very low fps for what i should be getting which is annoying as people on this same forum said i would have no/very little bottleneck

Thanks everyone for your replies I found them very helpful.

Given the likely huge bottleneck I think I will hold of completely until I can buy all my gaming parts at once and put it together in one go.
