Hello! I am currently in the final steps of build my new PC and have one last component to consider which is the monitor. I fell in love with the Acer Predator monitors when I first saw them. The only problem is I can't decide which I want most. I'll be running my PC with two MSI GTX 980 Ti Gaming 6G's and be overclockING them. What would be the best option? I'm excited to see a 4K monitor that can be pushed to 75hz refresh rate but on the other hand Ultra wide monitors offer a great gaming experience. Thanks for any help! :)

Being the owner of an Ultrawide monitor myself, I would say go with the 3440x1440 monitor. I really enjoy how Ultrawides cover most of my peripheral vision and indulges me into whatever I'm playing. Not to mention that two GTX 980Tis should kick ass in 3440x1440 100Hz.

Intel Core i7-5820K (4.4 GHz) | Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB  | 2x 360mm Custom Loop (Noctua iPPC) | ASRock X99 Extreme6 | Samsung 840 EVO 250GB | Fractal Design Define S | Corsair HX750 | Windows 10 | Corsair M65 RGB PRO | Corsair K70 RGB LUX (CherryMX Brown) | Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro & Creative Sound Blaster Z | Nexus 6P (32GB Aluminium) | Check out my setup: Project Kalte Here!

How are Ultra wide monitors for first person gaming? Is there any drawbacks with playing FPS games with an ultra wide monitor? Also, what Ultra wide do you have? I was thinking about getting the Acer X34.

Personally not a fan of ultrawide as support is still pretty lacking and some games just require more fiddling than I can personally be arsed with

For the next few months I'll only be playing Witcher 3 and XCOM 2. I know Witcher 3 has 21:9 support.

Fair enough, what about the rest of the time :P

Maybe I just play too many games or something

I have a Samsung S29E790C (60Hz 29" 2560x1080). So it's a bit lower end (Only $360) and I could only imagine the Acer X34 would be better in every way. To be honest, I don't play a wide range of FPS, mainly Battlefield 4. It works beautifully on that, the only drawback, is that in BF4, there are black bars on each side in only the menus. Overall I enjoy the experience.

Honestly, never played Witcher 3 so I am building this PC for the best experience graphically for games like Witcher 3, The Division, etc. Also, I add even more time once I'm done with Witcher 3 + Hearts of Stone because by then Blood and Wine expansion will be out. I just don't want to regret buying a 4K monitor only at 75hz when I could have bought a 34 inch Ultra wide at 100hz. :)

I know something such as 60hz and 100hz refresh rate is a noticeable difference but what about 75hz vs 100hz?

Sure I understand, im currently playing that game myself on my 27" 16:9 1440p 60hz monitor and having a blast :)

I guess personally id go for 16:9 4k at 75hz and enjoy the superior eye candy, over the faster refresh rate,  (until we get 144hz 4k panels)  - also no headaches with games that DONT support ultrawide

Immersion is basically what I'm looking for and I know an ultra wide monitor gives some damn fine immersion. I had a 1440p monitor and I enjoyed it very much the only problem was even though it was 27 inches, it had this real thick bezel. Now, the Acer XB1 models have some really slim bezel so it doesn't feel like it's taking away from the experience. Which keeps me in a indecisive potion of which one would be better? xD

Imo with everything on the table, like 2 x 980 Tis, ultra wide support etc, I recommend 4k.

If you have 2 x 980 tis and arent gaming at 4k, what're you doing with your life :P

Another question, in your opinion would it be smart to get a 4K 75hz monitor when Display Port 1.3 is close to coming out this year? Once Display port 1.3 is out that will allow 4K monitors to push 120hz refresh rate. I'd hate to but a 4K monitor only to sell it at the end of the year for the same one only at 120hz. Thanks!

Thanks for the help! I think I've made my decision and will be going with the 4K monitor. I'll order all my parts and monitor this week. :)
