GPU LED Header

Hello Gents and Ladies,

 

Maybe my googling skills are less than desired but I can't seem to find the answer for the following question:

 

Can you use the LED header on your GPU (for LEDs, obviously) after you've installed a GPU waterblock with a clear top?

 

To be more clear, can you use this guy:

*Example: EVGA 980Ti SC+

 

to achieve this effect (or similar):

 

 

?

 

If you can, is there a limit of how many LEDs can you stick in there? Is there a limitation on LED color (as it seems it is dependent on voltage - different color LEDs requiring different voltages)?

 

I would like to be able to control the LEDs with GPU software hence the interest.

I would measure the voltage and amperage to figure out the leds that you can use

But what you are suggesting kind of involves sticking wires into the GPU while powered and I would like to avoid this.

 

Has anyone done this before?
