CPU fan help

Go to solution Solved by TrifectaIII,

twin cpu fans join and connect to fan4 header on the MBO

The case fan controller is connected to the CPU_fan header on the MBO

Why would you not put the cpu fans on the cpu fan header?

My guess is that your fan controller isn't reporting any revolutions at all to the cpu header, and that is causing the bios to not want to boot, in order to save your cpu from overheating (since it thinks your cpu fan isn't moving any air).

If switching the header doesn't work, you might try disconnecting the two cpu fans and just running one of them to the cpu header and the other to an open header elsewhere.

Hello all,

I am at the final stages off my first build.

I have a Z170-A MBO, in a  Phanteks luxe case, and a twin fan phanteks CPU cooler

-------------------------

twin cpu fans join and connect to fan4 header on the MBO

The case fan controller is connected to the CPU_fan header on the MBO

The 3 case fans individually connect the case controller

the controller also have a 12v supply.

----------------

I am getting a CPU fan speed error detected  message on start up.

have i connected something up wrong? Please help as i have spent hours trying to figure out why i am getting the error

thanks very much

Rich

I connected the CPU fan to the CPU fan Header and then the controller to header 4 and it seems to have cured it.

thanks for all your help

Great! Glad it worked out. I think the thing about the lack of reported revolutions was probably the problem. One wonders if the instructions on your controller were wrong, or if part of that controller is just not working.
