So I am looking to update my PC, I fully custom built it around 6 years ago, and have only updated the GPU

as it stand this is my set up...

CPU: intel i7 920

GPU: GTX 760

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R

Memory: 6gb 1333 mHz (triple channel)

PS: 700w (not sure what brand)

Hard drve: 500gb hard disk // 240g solid state

Case: Antec 900

So basically I use my set up for some photo editing, light video editing and gaming. I'm not worried about maxing games out and am currently getting half decent frame rates, but I feel its time for some updates. A big issue is that I don't currently have any USB 3.0 or 3.1 slots because of my super old MOBO, which also sports an oh so dated triple channel ram, so I can't really upgrade my ram first as triple channel ram doesn't really exist any more.

I'm sad to see my i7 go even if it is super old, I figure becuase its 1336 socket this means I won't be able to put it in a new mobo and wait to upgrade my processor?

I'm sure I should be able to keep my case, PS, hard drives, and GPU but will need to update the rest.

So basically I would like some budget-ish recommendations on upgrades (preferably that won't go out of date for some time) for my CPU and MOBO, ram should be easy enough to choose.

oh and just to let y'all know I'm up in Canada so try to link me from www.newegg.ca // www.memoryexpress.com // www.ncix.ca

Any suggestions will help

I would get a 4790K/6700K if you want another i7, the Z97 and Z170 motherboards have 3.1 and 3.1 Type C and it will make your editing and gaming much better.

Keep in mind I'm aiming for budget ish here, I think i'd be fine with stepping down to an i5 at this point

Same thing as above is possible, with the i5 4690K Haswell or the i5 6600K Skylake.

Nah man, who needs multipliers? get an I5-6400 overclock the strap hehehe.

So, what's your budget?

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?
