So I need a laptop. I don't really have the money to spend more than $500 or so on one. I've been looking for used macbooks from late 2011-ish and later. One of the reasons I've been looking at them is because I had my 2008 macbook die on me only last year and that was only partly because I pretty much abused it in it's last year, so they really are quality pieces of hardware.. I don't think there is much argument there. Honestly the thought of buying a mac still makes me shudder but at least I'm not looking for a new one. Most of the one's I've seen though are grossly over priced. I've seen 2011 Macbook Air's going for $700... that's only $200 less than the retail price. I've also seen 2011 Macbook pro's selling for 600 - 900... So it just really surprises me. I've seen similar trends with other laptops, but not as much as I have with macs.

System: i7 4790K, Hyper 212 EVO, 16 GB Crucial Ballistix, GTX 1070 Super clocked, MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition, Corsair RM 750, Corsair 750D (with 2 additional 140mm NZXT fans up top for exhaust.)

It worked out well for me I guess, as I sold my 2009 MBP 15" ( served me for 6years) to build my PC and its resale value really helped with offsetting the cost. Then bought a used 2014 Asus Zenbook laptop that has an i7 CPU and throw an SSD in it. Blazing fast and still looks like a Mac.

From knowing that my 2009 had an Intel CPU, Hynix RAM a Samsung HDD (components easily found in any other Windows laptop) don't think I'll be going back to Mac anytime soon. Back in the days they had the PowerPC CPU which was claimed to be better at certain task then intels now that divide on a hardware level is much narrower. The only separator is the OS.....but that's just me.
