New build audio issues

Sorry for the beginner question guys. I recently finished a new PC build but i am having problems with the audio. The main issue is that i get a noticeable pop right before audio plays and i also experience a whining sound during some games. The popping does not occur during the audio but pops again if the audio stops then starts again. The whining is constant during games. I have tried multiple headsets and also tried uninstalling the Realtek drivers and using the default windows ones but nothing has worked which leads me to believe the onboard sound is having issues or i am getting some sort of interference.

My thought now is to just get an external dac to help solve the issues but my major concern is that even when i was using the audio from my monitor using a hdmi cord to the gpu i still experienced the popping and whining. I thought that if it was just a motherboard problem that the monitor speakers would have had no issues connected to the gpu. Why was the hdmi connection having the same issues?

If a external dac is the answer to my problems i would greatly appreciate any recommendations on some value for money external dacs that i could use with my m50x's.

Any advice on this issue would be greatly appreciated!

The motherboard is a Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 5 and my headset is the Audio-Technica M50X

I thought it could have been the impedence of ur headset but I just looked it up and the Z170X gaming 5 should easily be able to drive the M50X
