Project: Kraken

Benji_w

Introduction

Hello everyone, thank you for showing interest in my project. Some of you will have seen me correcting misconceptions about watercooling, software, benchmarks and AMD systems to which I often get slammed for being an AMD fanboi. Funny thing is I often recommend an i5 for gaming these days if within budget and so on but furthermore, I'm building four intel rigs over the next few months. I'll be keeping my FX 8350 system for doing University work on but my Kraken build will be my gaming system because the FX has more cores that I'll use for rendering and other work.

Specs

CPU: Intel 4670k

Mobo: Asus Maximus VII Ranger

RAM: 16GB HyperX Savage

SSD: M.2 Samsumg 950 PRO 256GB (Boot)

         Samsung 850 EVO 250GB (Storage)

PSU: EVGA Supernova 750 G2

Case: Fractal Design Define S

Reasoning

"So why build an Intel rig when you have a 5GHz AMD Benji?"

Simple; I'm clueless when it comes to Intel hardware, I honestly feel lost in the bios of intel boards because I've had AMD all my life apart from my macbook which is intel. I've used intel systems before but never owned one. I've never experienced delidding a CPU or directly mounting a waterblock to it or using XMP profiles etc. I think it will be pretty fun to learn something new.

"I don't get it, you always say AMD can game just as well as intel so why bother building one?"

Like I said above I don't know intel and I want to learn. I also don't have brand loyalty, if a product is good or it's the best I can afford then I will buy it.

"Why are you calling it Kraken?"

So this is a watercooled build but also the sea is blue (intel) and the Kraken is normally visualised in green (Nvidia), also I started drinking some dark spiced rum called Kraken...   ... It's nice!  :D

Final Words

Please don't come into here talking shit or causing flame wars, I will report you to mods and if possible have you removed. There seems to be a trend as of recent that people keep derailing build logs with flame wars etc and tbh it's not on. Be excellent to each other, agree to disagree like mature human beings and call it a day. This build log is to show what I can do and put a few things to rest. Hang out, enjoy and get geeky.

Thanks for stopping by.  :D
