Troubleshooting External Hard Drive Error

philpill

So I recently put together a new computer and my 1TB WD my passport (close to 4 years old) formatted to NTFS won't work on it.
When connected to USB 3.0, the computer recognizes it for a second but then it disconnects and this occurs a few times before I get an error message saying the drive malfunctioned. When connected to USB 2.0, it works fine.

What I've done:
Did tests to make sure the internal hardware of my computer is working by testing another WD my passport (ultra) --> All working
Tested the malfunctioning my passport on another computer --> Works fine
Upon doing some research, some people suggested changing the power settings: Control panel>Power options>Change plan settings>Change advanced power settings>USB settings>USB selective suspend setting>Change to disable --> Still doesn't work

Stuck on what to do next so any advice would be appreciated
Thanks!

Edit: Also just noticed that the drive works with the USB 3.0 at the back part of the motherboard but not the one at the front of the case
