If you're doing video editing, you're better off with a Xeon for the extra threads. You should go 1150 and go with Haswell. Plus Xeon's are made better than consumer i7's since they're made for servers.

ASUS Z97-E

Intel Xeon 1231-v3

G.SKILL 16GB DDR3 (you can upgrade to 32 later.)

AMD Sapphire R9 390 (better than 970 for the same price...)

XFX 850W PSU (seasonic based so it's reliable.)

Corsair 750D

Seagate 2TB HDD

Crucial 480GB SSD

I'm guessing this is about.. $1100. It's geared towards editing mostly, with a 2TB hard drive for video and an SSD for whatever else you need. Expensive and you could get away with cheaper parts, maybe like a R9 380 or R9 290. Cut a hundred bucks off the price.

Note: Xeon's are locked, so no real overclocking. But if you're a serious editor you should care more about stability than 10 seconds off render time.

But first, let's talk about parallel universes.

Spoiler

Intel i7-4790k undervolt, NVidia EVGA GTX 980Ti SC Reference, NVidia EVGA GTX 480 SC Reference, ASUS Z97-A/USB3.1, SK Hynix SL308 240GB, WD Green 2TB, Hynix 1333 8GB (4x2), XFX Core Pro 850w, NH-U12S, 4x NF-F12's, Sennheiser HD 558's, Blue Yeti, Corsair K70 (red), Logitech MX Master, XBox One Controller, ASUS VG248QE 144Hz, HP 2010i
