So long story short, I made a modification to my computer case that made me need to mount the power supply in an unorthodox way... I was curious if a method like zip ties or braided fishing line would work, as I have a fanless psu that has honeycomb patterned holes all around it, so I was curious if it would be safe to run it through those, or if it would be a fire or melting hazard.

Your psu would shut down long before zip ties started melting or anything like that.

Zipties can work if you use enough. I'd suggest at least 4 zipties for any side and at least 2 sides of the psu.

You mean if it malfunctioned and got hot enough it would stop running?

So there is no danger?

And it's easier for me to use braided fishing line as that is what I have on hand, would that work?

Zipties withstand temps up to ~80c and melt at over 250c. Your psu would shut down long before that.

Braided fishing line should work as well although I don't know how much would be needed or how it can be implemented well.

Is there no way to hard mount the psu by drilling some holes for 4 screws?

No as I would like to avoid making permanent damage to the case wherever possible.

It's only a matter of time before zipties and string turn into drill and dremel.  ;)
