GPU taking too much power?

Go to solution Solved by Starelementpoke,

I have a new r8 290 that i just installed in the system, my 4 year old rig, with a FSP aurum 500w power supply however when i turn on the power, it stays on for 2s before shutting off completely and after awhile i hear an audible click from the psu. Is the PSU not able to handle the 290? i might be thinking of getting a new PSU specifically the Superflower Leadex 650w Silver, however i want to diagnose the issue at hand first, did the PSU shutdown because of the r9 290 drawing too much power thereby tripping the overvoltage breaker?

It might be your psu quality, it´s tier 6. Probably is your psu.

Aurum are rather poor quality. Probably giving in after 4 years of extensive use
