Using a US purchased power supply in Europe

Go to solution Solved by Xenift,

So if I understood correctly, all I have to do is check the specs for 200-240V input compatibility and use an appropriate cable. Many thanks!

Just another quick question. Is EVGA reputable for power supplies? And is the EVGA G2 a good quality model? I chose the CX650X because I thought it was a high quality model but someone already told me not to buy it.

The G2 is among one of the most recommend PSUs out there.

We have a list at LTT that can help you immensely if the G2 is not available in your location.

Hello LTT community,

This is my first post. :P

I think I have a final version of my parts-list for my first build. Here it is:

https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Aprendiz/saved/#view=B3Qkcf

I'm thinking about getting my uncle that lives in NY to bring me almost all of the parts when he comes visit me in March. However, I am somewhat reluctant in adding the power supply to that list of goodies since I'm afraid it might not work or end up damaging other components, since in Europe we use 200-240V power inputs instead of 110V like in the US. So the real question is: would a power supply like the Corsair CX650X work in Europe if I used a correct power cable I have here laying around?

Best regards from Portugal,

Aprendiz

PS: any improvements suggestions for the parts-list are appreciated :)

You'd need a proper wall outlet/plug else the grounding might be missing and all hell will break lose

I would just buy a PSU from your own country just to be safe

wtf is wrong with you and your PSU horror scenarios ...

The RM650x will work fine in Europe as well

"AC Input: 100V - 240V"

Just use a proper C13/C14 cable ;)

G2 550w is what you are looking for at that price point.

It even has silent mode.

Plus you get just get a european wire from your nearby electrical store and plug it in the PSU and it probably work fine.

This.

Only buy PSUs from countries that the mains are 220-240V, so most European countries, Australia and New Zealand should be fine.

Most PSUs should work, but not all.

First of all, the reason I'm not buying my parts in Portugal is because the overall difference in what I spend is more than 500€. I would spend about 1800-2000€ buying parts here. And I'd have to order them from many different stores while looking for the best prices.

I'm sure you understand if I tell you probably doesn't suffice :P

I'd like to be sure, through someone's experience or something.

@MrSuperb,

I still have the power supply cable from an old one that died on my a few years back but as far as I can tell it's the standard cable. I suppose that's what you mean.

I have this same issue I posted a topic but forgot to link the PSU, oops. Would a evga 850w G2 Fully modular PSU purchased in the USA work in lets say Slovenia? :D

According to google, 110 is American 220 is European.

Not sure of other products but the EVGA g2 can take in 100-240.

Most modern ATX PSUs are switched-mode ones with a voltage doubler in the rectification stage i.e. they will work with voltages between 100-240V but most of the time are tested for an even broader range.

yeah in theory if the ground is missing one might get hurt ... makes me wonder how often you have witnessed fault currents in your lifes so far ...

also the ground won't be missing on standard cables with C13/C14 couplings and pretty much nothing else will fit in the PSUs C14 connector ...

Yea seems like so.

Funny sidetrack tho, the cx430 runs more efficient on a higher voltage.

We've had the grounding disappear a few times, it's not a pleasant experience

this is true for all ATX PSUs with voltage doublers.

The issue is the way things are. We have dangling cables from posts which can get fucked up in various ways. We had an AC die because it took 350VAC to the face.
