Overclocking just boosts your clock speed and voltage so that it runs faster. The VRAM is out of your control. If you're worried about hitting the limit then get a 980 or another card that's not a 970

The only game I have seen hit the 3.5 GB limit is shadow of mordor so far, on ultra settings it hit 3.78 GB while doing a benchmark.
