Hi, I am going to upgrade to skylake and i am a total perfectionist and i was wanting to make a dark blue ( like the highlights on linus' mobo) themed build.

I am getting an i5 and a z170 mobo ( undesided) and ram

1) i want to change the silver highlights on my Be Quiet Silent Base 800 silver window to dark blue which wont be too hard

2) Ram won be a problem

3) i want to get a mobo but i cant find any good blue ones so i was think of painting either the asus z170 a or the MSI z170a sli

4) i have an MSI r7 370 which is currently red which is a bit of a problem so i was thinking of painting that as well but i am worried that i will either mess it up with the shroud on or void the warranty with the shroud of.

Don't paint the motherboard. Also, you ARE going to lose warranty, and if you're worried about that - don't mod it. Being you, I'd rather get a black motherboard and include more blue accents around it.

Then go ahead and paint a perfectly good and new motherboard, voiding your warranties and possibly destroying it in the process. None of my business. If you have money to splurge on spare Z170 motherboards, why not get a X99 motherboard that would come in your desired colour scheme instead? It's only few bucks more... Ah, becuse "where's fun in it", I get it.

plus linus did it

Except Linus was going to replace it anyway if it failed, the paint job was far from perfect (he himself said it's a 10 foot mod - from 10 feet away it looked good), and still - one mishap and the board is screwed.

Don't get me wrong. I like having fun, but risking expensive hardware for some questionable aesthetic benefit is simply not funny enough in my book.

Buy a small sheet of 3M vinyl in the color you like, and cut out pieces to cover the colors that you don't like.

And no offense to Linus, but if Linus can paint a motherboard without breaking it, anyone can paint a motherboard without breaking it. You have to deal with the fact that your warranty is gone though.

You would have to read the warranty on the specific product if you were concerned about it, likely it will say that modifying it in any way voids the warranty, so yes.

Now, if you were to just peel it off before sending it in should you need to use the warranty, they would never know...
