What's up guys,

My MSI Ghost Pro 4k was acting up so I reinstalled windows... When I was re-downloading all the things that came with it I noticed that I had to flash the firmware and that's when more problems started and now I can't access my files using the explorer. Help...

Edit cannot access any files...

So you flashed the firmware successfully and then this happened?

What thing had to have it's firmware flashed. There's no reason I could see to do that, unless there was a bios update.

Is there a way to go back or I'm screwed? I followed this. http://www.msi.com/files/pdf/EC_Firmware_Update_SOP_for_Windows_EN.pdf

Did you read the first three warnings? Yes a firmware update, if done incorrectly, may screw you over. If you followed all the instructions you 're probably fine but if you did something wrong then I can't do anything. Contact customer support and see if they can factory reset or something.

Why did you have to? Was there a problem that made you think you needed to flash the firmware?

Were there any problems or errors during the flash? Or did it go exactly according to that set of MSI instructions?

No, everything went fine, the file explorer just keeps crashing windows

By crashing I mean the taskbar just flashes and restarts

Repair using a bootable windows usb?

Windows 10 has a lot of built-in repair features that MAY work, depending on what the root cause is. Further testing would need to be done to be sure. Can you open the run prompt by pressing Windows key + R? If so, run the following command:

shutdown /r /o /t 0

This will get you some advanced options. In the menu that appears, click on "Troubleshooting," "Advanced," and then "Startup options." Some units have these options organized a bit differently, though, so keep your eyes out and search for that last "Startup options" or "startup settings" button. The goal is to boot to Safe Mode to see if the issue persists there.

Can boot into safe mode, but I can't access the internet due to being a guest adim, I used this command a while back net user administrator /active:yes

You aren't supposed to be able to access Internet in Safe mode, so that's normal. So you're aware, it's usually not advised to use the hidden admin account as a general-purpose user, but to make your own admin account separately and leave that one hidden.

In any case, while in Safe Mode, does the issue persist? Or does file explorer act normally?

The file explorer acts normal. How do I hide the hidden adim account?

I'm guessing you have all of your data you want to save? Otherwise you could restore to factory defaults.

I tried that before and ended screwing up my entire system due to a corrupt windows file, rather not risk that again.

Edit:On second thought, I might try that again when I finish this paper I have to write and have a bit of time to mess around on it.

Since you have done that, surely MSI or the company you bought the laptop from could give you a windows key, you could wipe the hard drive then download windows 10 tool and install a fresh copy.?!?!? or (if ur rich) you could just buy a product key I know a site where they are only like $40 and work fine.

Could I just install windows normally? or do I have to wipe the SSDs?

The file explorer acts normal. How do I hide the hidden adim account?

Since the file explorer acts normally in Safe Mode, that means that something is CAUSING it to act badly in normal mode. Usually, this is a program or a driver that isn't working correctly. If you utilize msconfig and the startup tab in Task Manager, you can disable half of everything listed, and reboot. If all works fine, then that means the problem is in the half that's disabled. Flip them, test again. If it does not work, then you know what's causing the issue is in the half that is enabled. Set it so only a quarter of the items are enabled to boot up, then test again. Slowly narrow down what's enabled until you find what's causing the problem.

To hide the hidden admin account, create a different admin account that you will use. Log into that new admin account, named whatever you'd like, and run in the command prompt:

net user administrator /active:no

Of course, yes, you can certainly just try to restore to factory defaults and see if that resolves the issue. In Windows 10, run that same shutdown command as earlier (shutdown /r /o /t 0), "Troubleshooting," and then "Reset." The two options, Keep my Files vs. Remove my Files, does exactly what it sounds like. Keep My Files will attempt to not remove any of your data. Remove my Files will reset the entire hard drive, wiping out everything, and starting from scratch.

Most companies will be hesitant, to say the least, to hand out new Windows keys. Unless the built-in reset option fails, you likely do not need to bother installing a fresh copy via USB, and thus, no need to extract the license key. If you do want or need to fresh install from a USB, though, you will want to extract the license key, and there are free tools to get that online. I don't know which is best for Windows 10 off the top of my head, though.

I'm probably just going to reset it due to same problem I had before when the loading screen kept flashing.
