So basically i bought my new computer, spent the whole day hooking it up and then noticed the graphics cards (MSI Radeon R9 390) 2 PCIe slots (1 x 8Pin, 1 x 6Pin. I had only at the time hooked one of the slots up with the PSU's (Seasonic G-650 650W Gold+, T2 PSU), pre-attached cables which was a 6+2Pin which i inserted into the 8Pin slot. What i want to know is how to go about connecting the last 6Pin slot up, as in which cable to use. The 6+2Pin inserted into the 8Pin slot split into another 6+2Pin which would definitely fit in the 6Pin but i got a recommendation sheet with the PSU saying not to use that split cable in the 6Pin slot. So this is where i'm confused. Since this is my first computer build please bear with me. The confusion i'm getting is whether it's fine to actually use the 6+2Pin hanging off the side of the other 6+2, or whether i would use a PCIe slot on the PSU to connect another individual 6+2Pin (exactly the same as thePSU's cable with a split of another 6+2Pin).

I do believe it will have to be the latter as the PSU's manufactuers say that is the safer option, and they know what they're talking about (I hope). So connect with the PSU's 2nd 6+2 or use a new cable from one of the PSU's PCIe slots to the GPU?

Thanks for the help, much appreciated

you can use the 6+2 as a 6-pin easily. If you couldn't, it wouldn't exist.

Use the 6+2 pin connector. Thats kinda what its there for. It will be just fine.

those ribbon cable warnings are very exclusive to only absurdly powerful GPUs (such as the 480 or 295x2)

Yes i know, i think you misunderstood the question, sorry it was probably the way i said it.

Basically does it matter whether i go against the recommendation (as it is much easier to hook up, wont have to take apart the build) and use the 2nd 6+2Pin that is attached to another 6+2Pin inserted into the 8Pin slot. Or would it be much safer to go with the recommendation and use a completely seperate modular cable to connect the 2nd GPU 6Pin slot to the PSU?

Thanks for the reply and sorry for the bad wording, very tired as its 1:30am.

Also after a little bit of reading online, i found that some people's PSU's busted from using both 6+2Pin cables attached to each other. Since this is my first and expensive build i'm kind of worried about screwing something up.

SeaSonic G-series are top-quality PSUs. You will be fine.

Alrighty then, i guess i'll just use the connectors attached to each other, and hope for the best.

Thanks for the reply.

If it does't work it will just shut down under load but I am 100% sure it will work flawlessly.
