So I'm making a computer and I need a power supply. A cheep one that won't catch fire. Here's what I have already.

PS I am aware that there is no heat sink.

I almost murdered someone, then I realized I was logged out of PCCG.

I am going to buy the XFX XTR 750w, but that is overkill. The XTR 550w is $130 and modular but sadly out of stock and has been out of stock since mid December.

You can have look at EVGA ones ... sadly tried contacting them and they said probably mid 2016 but went for Rmx series which is also good. Around 550-650 should be pretty enough for you.

Lol. Why would he pay $130 AUD for an 550W PSU which isn't enough for him if he's going to overclock and when his system is under load instead of buying an XFX 650W 80+ Gold for the same price and can hande his system with no problems?

You just made me lose my cart, so I am very pissed off now and most of all IT IS FINE!

The PSU I recommended was modular and that is why I recommended it!

So modularity over capacity?

Yes, he doesn't need 650w,

If he's smart, he should get the R9 390 and the 650W PSU. He would be better off. But at the end of the day I'm only suggesting

Says the guy with 32GB of Ram.

550w will also be fine with a R9 390. IDC, I am trying to recover my cart.

You can recover your cart but not his. 550w with an i5 6600K and R9 390 wouldn't be enough. If he overclocks is CPU he already will need a higher capacity PSU let alone overclocking the GPU and when his system is under load.

The 390 + 6600k can run off a 450W PSU, it's just not recommended. byalexandr ran his i3 and 290 on a 400W PSU.

550w is more than enough, I have recovered my cart.

The R9 390 yea but don't forget the other components.

The card itself pulls under 300w. http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/powercolor-radeon-r9-390-pcs-8gb-review,8.html

550w is plenty for any system with a single gpu.

So also with overclocking the CPU and GPU?

Yes. Keep in mind that the numbers also don't take account inefficiency of the psu and so the actual power draw is even less.

Stick to benchmarks and in-depth reviews when it comes to power draw. Many recommendations on wattage are inflated.

Alright then. I just don't hope people's system will shut down after they overclocked both components and it's under load.
