8GB corsair vengeance ddr4

Noctua NH L12

MSI gtx 970

Evga g2 550w PSU

I'm thinking about putting windows 7 on it, but is skylake compatible?

Just run windows 10 on it, you're going to have to upgrade at some point, why not now? It's a really great OS, btw.

  1. you don't need a z board if you go with a non k cpu. you can get away with using the h170 platform
  2. you don't need such an expensive mobo
  3. i would recommend the noctua u12s or the phanteks tc 12 instead
  4. the r9 390 outperforms the 970
  5. you don't need a gold psu. bronze is fine.
  6. wd caviar blue or seagate barracuda is at 1tb is fine and cheaper

Thanks for your help. But what's the difference between the z170 and h170?

BTW Im going to steal the heatsink out of my old PC that I don't use. Also what PSU would you recommended?

Also, In one of your old post, you told that the budget is 1200 gbp. So that I made a build around that price range.

here's an idea of what i mean. the build below will outperform your build because of the r9 390. it's probably cheaper than your original build as well. z boards are meant for overclockable chips. they have more features than h170, but you don't need them. for a good run down of the differences between z170 and h170, visit gamer's nexus website:

well, around 1000 gbp, you can get this... the gtx 980 from evga below is VERY good. one of the best gpu's out there.

if it's too expensive, just get a 250gb ssd from samsung instead to lower the overall cost:

edit:

you could probably squeeze in a gtx 980 ti from evga in the build if you went with a 120gb ssd from samsung and a 6500 cpu. that would perform well too.
