Building PC - What powersupply do I need?

Intel_Atom
Go to solution Solved by HKZeroFive,

First build:

-Can't overclock 4790K with H97 motherboard. You need a Z97 instead.

-R9 380 is better

Second build:

-Again, R9 380 is better

Personally, I'd invest in a i5 6600 and a R9 390. You'd need a 600W PSU for this though.

VS series is meh. Grab a Antec HCG/SeaSonic/XFX PSU.

I have decided to build a pc for around 1088,69$.

The parts I have decided to use are:

1

CPU: Intel i7 4970k

GPU: MSI Geforce GTX 960 4GB

Motherboard: MSI H97 GAMING 3

SSD: Samsung EVO 250 GB

Case: Corsair Carbide SPEC-03

RAM: 8 GB HyperX Fury DDR3

or

2

CPU: Intel i5 6600

GPU: MSI Geforce GTX 960 2GB

Motherboard: MSI Z170A Gaming m5

SSD: Samsung EVO 250 GB

Case: In win 703

RAM: 8 GB HyperX Fury DDR4

Then for the power supply:

Is a Corsair VS550 good enough for build 1?

Also if you have any recommendations (changes I can make) please tell me and which build is the best one?

[i am new, go easy on me xD]

If you can get a GTX 970 or an R9 380.

GTX 970 a bit more expensive.

R9 380 cheaper and same performance as GTX 970 (from my experience)

and the PSU will work fine for both GPU

The R9 380 has the same performance as the GTX 970?

Lol no.

As others have said, and as an owner of a GTX 960, I recommend you go i5 6500/6600 and a R9 390. If you need Shadowplay/CUDA then go for a GTX970 at the loss of performance compared to the R9 390

R9 380 is better than GTX 960? Maybe I should go with the R9 380.

What (motherboard) z97 would be good at the same price tag?

About 10% faster than the GTX 960. Same price so it's definitely worth it.

Save some money and get the MSI Z97 SLI KRAIT Edition and a CRYORIG H7 CPU cooler.

I checked out the MSI Z97 SLI KRAIT and it seems awesome, would a CM Hyper 212 EVO be a good choice?

It's decent but I'd still go for a Cryorig H7 - better cooling and looks better imo.

With build 1, removing the GTX 960 and motherboard and adding a R7 380 and MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition. Would I be able to run this with a Corsair VS 550W powersupply?

*R9 380 (just in case)

The VS is a pretty meh power supply, I'd grab a good SeaSonic 520W one.

So a 500-550W power supply is enough?
