7970 backplate

This is a rambling thread to stop reading now if you don't have time.

I am going to get the MSI 7970 OC V2 and watercool it. I have decided on the Watercool HeatKiller waterblock because it has very good cooling and low restriction according to some random review. It also does look quite nice. I was looking before at the EK waterblocks and got used to the style, a bit too much I think. I love the looks of the Watercool waterblock.

That's the nickel plated version. I will get it if I can actually get a hold of it but if not the copper version looks just as good. Its a work of art. In comparison to the CSQ design on EK blocks the CSQ looks terrible. Also the low restriction is important for me because I have a Laing DDC pump and it will be a very long loop with 3 components and 3 radiators in it.

So anyway. As a few of you may know I am selling my 7950 and its going on ebay for more than I expected and there's still a day left so I thought I may as well go with a backplate to make my system more complete. A backplate is tricky though. It will be the most obvious thing in your system depending on how your system is laid out so it is one of my main concerns. It also has to fit the colour scheme of the system and the lighting. So I might as well say what I am planning for my build.

My system will be black with red accents and bright cool white lighting so you can see everything. I want light pouring out of my window. My system is on the ground so I look down on it so the back plate is quite literally the first thing you can see.

So my question is, what backplate should I use? I have one in mind but I'm not saying so I don't change anyone's decision.

It's really hard to find a nice BP for the 7970... EK made some - but had clearance issues with one. I don't really care for the little circles over everything. :) But theirs was an all black one...

Yeah I saw them. They seemed a bit meh to me. Would look good if the GPU wasn't the center piece. If you had a Tvirus for example.
