Greetings techies!

I've been keeping an eye on the world of monitors for roughly 6 years now, and at long, long last a company has come out with a monitor which ticks every box I have: Acer's magnificent Predator X34.

I'm looking for the right balance between gaming, movies, and productivity (University research, photoshop and programming). As such, I need the real estate provided by 3440*1440 for productivity, IPS for photoshop (Cutting edge 10 bit colour accuracy isn't needed, but TN is unacceptable), aspect ratio for movies, and GSync + high refresh rate for gaming.

This is my final stop before I reach the savings needed for such a huge investment. Unless a similarly capable monitor comes out (There's nothing on the horizon...), this is the one I've settled on, with one caveat: I will be running this via Displayport 1.2 from a 2014 MSI GT-72 laptop. The machine is powered by a GTX 980m chip. For those unfamiliar with the 980m, in most games it is on par roughly with a GTX 970 desktop or GTX 780, especially when overclocked, as I sometimes do.

I already recognize this will NOT be capable of driving this resolution in the latest games. However, my gaming pursuits are TF2, Supreme Commander, Tomb Raider, Tale of Two Sons, Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak, and other older, less demanding titles generally. I need a final opinion from anyone who uses this resolution, especially anyone running it on a 980m, on whether these games really can be driven. The big one is whether I am likely to be able to run TF2 at 100+ Hz, as refresh rate matters less in the non-FPS games.

Thanks in advance for the input everyone, and I hope to see you on the other side soon! :)
