On my earlier systems I used sound effects for windows startup and shutdown I liked. Now along comes win10 and it seems you can't select custom sounds for startup and shutdown. Is there a workaround for this or do we have to go on a nag campaign against microborg until they do release a win10 updgrade that guves us back the option of custom windows startup/shutdown sounds?

Open up Registry Editor

Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\EventLabels\WindowsLogon.

Double-click on the ExcludeFromCPL value and change it from 1 (which is the default) to 0. You can also delete the value directly.

You can now close the Registry Editor and open up the Windows Sounds dialog instead by right-clicking the speaker icon in the taskbar on the right then selecting "Sounds".

Search for the Windows Logon sound in the list. Edit it as if you would change any other sound.

Saw this a while back on reddit
