Hey guys! I'm looking to buy a new laptop for my studies (I'm studying in computer sciences). I did the first year and a half without a laptop but for the next years I feel like a laptop would be really useful. I'm looking for a laptop that has an i7 in it (Skylake preferably) some good graphic capabilities but not too high-end (I already have a gaming desktop) and an SSD in it. I also want to pay under 2000$ canadian. So far I came up with the Asus ROG GL552VW and I've seen mixed reviews. Some say it's really good, others say it's ok and some say it's terrible. I wanted your guys opinion on it. Do some of you own this laptop? And what do you think about it? Maybe you guys can give me suggestions too. I will also keep looking on my part too.

I loved my old ASUS R700V, see if you can get one of those used for cheap and put a SSD in it. Not the best cooler for noise and heat disapation at about 85C when playing bf4.

was trying to save you some $$$. you may be able to find one new but it is older.

I've never heard of Eurocom before... But yeah I defenetily don't need a GTX 980M. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

Or maybe this. Not as powerful as the Sky MX5 but has the little bit of power when you require it.

So what did you have to say?

Sorry for the delay, had a coursework to finish for Uni.

GL552 has quite poor build quality, it's whole plastic and has lot's of flex around it.

Speakers are mediocre, don't expect anything decent from them.

Cooling is lackluster, under max load the CPU goes over 90*C.

Asus' customer support is ABYSMAL. I kid you not, they are useless and won't help with shit - even RMAs...

try xps 15 or G501vw or an apache pro gs60, y700 , or acer v nitro

XPS - yes

G501 - yes, solid cooling and aluminium chassis - old school RoG style

Apache Pro (GE62/72) - yes

Y700 - yes

Acer Nitro - no (cheap screen, heat issues, plastic)
