Bios 2tb drive problem

Go to solution Solved by Oshino Shinobu,

I know the Skylake platform will be fine, it's if it will work right now that I need to know.

There's nothing I can find saying that the board doesn't support 4TB drives. I doubt it wouldn't, as the board's not that old.

I plan on getting a 4tb WD black drive for my computer because I got jack of running out of space, however I have read that Bios can only handle up to 2.1TB for drives but some places say that only happens if it is a boot drive and others say it applies to all drives. I don't plan to use this as a boot drive but as a Mass storage for media and games as I have an SSD for boot so will this be a problem for me? My MoBo is an intel DP55WB and I am running windows 10. I plan to update to skylake soon and so I will get a 4tb drive as it is the best price per gig regardless of whether is shows as 2.1 or not on my currrent system but would also like the info in case I turn my old PC into a NAS later on.

If you're upgrading to Skylake, the board will certainly support a 4TB drive. What won't support it is MBR partitioning. At around 2TB, MBR starts throwing a hissyfit. You'd need to use GPT for 2TB+ drives (can be configured through Disk Management in Windows)

The old PC can be changed into a NAS by installing an OS like FreeNAS on a USB stick or small drive and booting from that. Look up FreeNAS for more info on it.
