So I'm making a nas server but I wanted a small case that can support a

CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1231 V3

MOBO: ASRock E3C224-V+ ATX LGA1150

Ram: 32GB DDR4

HDD: Western Digital 6TB 7200RPM [4]

SSD: Samsung 950 Evo 512GB [2]

The Smaller the better! Price isn't a Concern, something like the U-NAS would be nice but I don't know if it supports all this?

Help is appreciated thank you!

well if you want small... you should get a mATX or mITX mobo so it can fit into small cases

the Fractal Design Node 804 is what i want to build my NAS in. Its a really good looking case and holds 8 HDD but, again you need a mATX mobo...

*want's small case*

*wants ATX motherboard*

WHYYYYYY? (i'm guessing the 2 950's, and tbh, why that as well? you'll probably run into a network bottleneck before they do)

I'd recommend something like the fractal design node series (804 (mATX) fits 8 sata drives and is really very small, 304(mini-ITX) fits 6 and is even smaller).

any special requirements? (that xeon does also happily fit into consumer LGA1150 motherboards btw).

oh, on a side note, without a special PCIe Card those 950s won't run at full speed.

I'm buying the parts currently so I'll go one SSD and 4 HDDs and I need a mobo suggestion and PCIe card if you wouldn't mind.

not sure what your price range is but all of these are mATX or smaller and will fit in that Node 804 case and supports the CPU and ECC Ram... which is the only reason to get a Xeon for a NAS...

with that E5 CPU instead of the E3 you can put in that ASUS WS MoBo... which is much better looking then that server mobo you have up there, and still support ECC ram and any Raid you would be running with 4 HDDs

im not an expert on this but... there is no on-board graphics for that CPU or Mobo, but since a NAS is not something that you will need a display for, for day to day use... only for the initial set up.... you can use a GPU from a different PC (if you have one) to set it up, and then take it out and put it back in the original system... and then after that you will just access the NAS remotely to save or pull things off of it from your other PCs / devices
