390 is a good deal of a better card

Eh, doesn't matter. If you want to spend your money on something that performs (debatably) worse, that's your choice.

The R9 390 doesn't make a huge difference in performace. In some games the R9 390 is way better and in some games the GTX 970 is better. average there is 5-10 FPS difference between the two cards but yeah I would go for the R9 390 instead because it's also cheaper.

At the 1080p yes it's not a big difference but at 1440p and 4K the R9 390 is the better choice. Plus, it's usually cheaper.

yup best bang for the buck ;)

i think the only other game was shadow of mordor

and with more vram at higher res the r9 390 should be nice too, specially if you mod your games like skyrim or others

my mate got an aoc 34" 1440p display and cripples with his msi 970 on like 30fps playing witcher3

That's true. It's his money so I don't care really. It's more like 1080p they're equal and 1440p is where the 390 starts to pull ahead by quite a bit.
