Hey guys! New to the forums here but no to PC building alas. I am at a standstill I decided to upgrade my PC this year so I'm kinda going all out here. CPU: I can't decide on a 8230 or an 8350 by AMD. I plan to oc either one to 5ghz hopefully. Performance wise I have no idea which is greater. Motherboard will be a: MSI 970 Gaming DDr3 2133 ATX board. PSU 850 watt corsair modular going that high mostly for a future upgrades. GPU is where I really don't know where to go or what's best to pair with my CPU setup. I am considering a R9290x but not really sure about it. If you guys have any tips or opinions or suggestions that you could give me I greatly appreciate it!

You'll experience a bottleneck with the 290X (due to your CPU).

Please no

What budget, what are you doing with it just gaming? You'd only want the FX 8 core if you really had a use for 8 cores like maybe for streaming

If that's your current PC just replace the CPU with an i5 if it's really holding you back otherwise you should be fine for 1080p gaming

maybe invest in a 4k display now if you do productivity work instead and get a really capable PC this summer with the new GPUs and new CPUs that come out.

Thanks for the suggestions. I probably should have mentioned what I'm building my rig for. Anyways. Gaming as well as some light video editing. My current rig is perfect for editing what I edit. Mostly my gaming performance is the thing I'd like to improve on. So i5 what's a good gpu to pair with it ?

Your Current GPU should be fine for gaming at mid-high settings, a 390 is decent upgrade, but probably not worth it overall, and ya an i5 should be anywhere from 30-40% faster than your current CPU
