I have recently gotten a new Gigabyte R9 380 GPU. When I install it into the PCIE x16 slot it doesnt "click" in but it feels and looks in place. When i plug in the DVI to the monitor it doesnt display anything at all. When i take it out and use the APU graphics my computer works fine and the display on the monitor works.

I dont know if its something wrong with the graphics card such as it being DOA since when I plug in the 8 pin power adapter to it, the windforce lights and fans turn on, but it gives no display.

Or if it is something wrong with the mobo.

I've tried disabling integrated graphics and taking the card out and putting it back in multiple times.

Please help and I can provide aditional deatils if needed.

Specs:

CPU: a10-5700 APU 3.4 ghz

MOBO: msi ms-7778

RAM: 8gb DDR3

PSU: EVGA 500B

> Buys a r9 380

> Uses DVI

Why not lol. I use DVI-D, my monitor has nothing else that supports 144hz @ 1080p

@OP any chance you could try another GPU? From a friend or family member

Do you think i should RMA it to Newegg to get a replacement gigabyte or get a refund and get a powercolor r9 380?

Refund and go for PowerColor. Asus and Gigabyte are to be avoided for GPUs

So it is possible there is something wrong with the PCIEx16 slot?

I would suggest putting on that little speaker that came with the motherboard and listening to what failure code it gives

little speaker? I dont know where it is, because my PC is a prebuilt HP one

Oh, yeah usually there is a small beeper that comes with the motherboard which beeps several times and you can read an error code. Well it's either the GPU or the PCI slot; I'd write a support ticket to gigabyte. (Or if you bought it at a local store try to RMA it there). I guess there's at least a 50% chance that it is the GPU so...

The card could be broken but I don't think it is. Try to use it in a different PCI slot and try to reset the Bios. That's the only thing i can think of..

Theres only one PCIEx16 slot on this mobo since it is a HP prebuilt and since it is a prebuilt the bios is very limited and idk how to reset the bios.
