Looking to replace my teeny tiny 22" TV as I realised that I never use it anymore because it's just far too small for my current room. The TV shall be placed upon a large chest of drawers which is why I'm looking in the 40"-43" range (anything over is probably too heavy).

Without further ado here are the contenders:

> LG 42" FHD (£269)

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-and-home-entertainment/televisions/televisions/lg-42lf561v-42-led-tv-10131419-pdt.html

> Sharp 40" FHD (£179)

http://www.tesco.com/direct/sharp-lc40cfe5221k-40-inch-full-hd-1080p-led-tv-with-freeview-hd/301-8207.prd?pageLevel=sku&skuId=301-8207#product-details-container

> Phillips 40" FHD (£259)

http://www.argos.co.uk/m/static/Product/partNumber/3927427.htm

> Panasonic 40" FHD (£269)

http://www.argos.co.uk/m/static/Product/partNumber/3911787.htm

> Toshiba 40" FHD (£259)

http://www.argos.co.uk/m/static/Product/partNumber/3573895.htm

Which represents the best deal?

Phillips TV's have notoriously bad speakers and take years to turn on. They aren't bad picture wise though, we have a Phillips TV, it was extremely cheap so...

I would go for the LG.

Location: Kaunas, Lithuania, Europe, Earth, Solar System, Local Interstellar Cloud, Local Bubble, Gould Belt, Orion Arm, Milky Way, Milky Way subgroup, Local Group, Virgo Supercluster, Laniakea, Pisces–Cetus Supercluster Complex, Observable universe, Universe.

Spoiler

12700, B660M Mortar DDR4, 32GB 3200C16 Viper Steel, 2TB SN570, EVGA Supernova G6 850W, be quiet! 500FX, EVGA 3070Ti FTW3 Ultra.

They are all good, isn't this your call to make? (aesthetically)

Well I guess my main question is whether the Sharp one at £179 is significantly worse than the others. The price difference is pretty large! I just think there has to be a catch somewhere with a price tag like that compared to all of the others. Yet it's not obvious by glancing at the specifications.

I've noticed that Sharp TVs are slowly disappearing from my local stores, I don't know why maybe they're dying so they're clearing their stock? lol

Just get the LG one because LG is good :P

Mmm I think I agree the LG does look the most attractive deal but my main concern is the placement of the legs at the edges of the TV. I've just measured my chest of drawers to be exactly 36" across. The TV is 38" across. I think it could just about fit but I guess I'd be worried that any slight knock could cause the whole thing to fall off because of the edge legs - wish they were more centrally placed.

I'm never good at making decisions...

Cheers everyone. I really wanted the 42" LG one but I went for the 40" Sharp TV in the end because of size concerns. Glad I did as the LG one would indeed have been just a smidge too wide for the chest of drawers, whilst the Sharp one fits perfectly. For the price at £179 (£157.50 after Clubcard discount) I think I've got a bargain as I have no major complaints with picture quality of the Sharp TV (minor complaint is that black levels are very deep meaning it's hard to make out what's happening in shadows in dark scenes).

Very pleased overall considering there price I paid - the same TV is currently £289 on Amazon :)

Sharp Corp. is leaving certain markets. They will license their brand to Hisense for North/Central/South America.

> Phillips 40" FHD (£259)

> Panasonic 40" FHD (£269)

> Toshiba 40" FHD (£259)

Which represents the best deal?

I'd choose between the LG and the Panasonic in this case. Toshiba's TVs had gotten worse when it comes to reliability.

You may wanna look into this too, as the extra real estate would be worth it:
