Not sure whats wrong

on all amd platforms, the "temps" are not all that accurate. the sensor properties

are not a standard output, but a data formulation with a "best guess" to tjMAX limits.

the way the platform works is that not all cores are getting worked the same and

with different loads/instructions, hence the fluctuations. you'd want to experiment

with the fan curve (i used 60° 100% fan speed, 40° at 60%, and 20° at 20% if your

mobo can support those inputs).

depending on software used, the accuracy can be bananas. you are saying 53°, but

is that core temps? package? socket?

coolant temperature (38°) won't vary too much, unless the fans or pump fails. 50°

would be a threshold to stay under.

Hi, sorry if I posted this in the wrong place/way new to forums but I have been watching linustechtips as I dipped my toes in the world of being a real dyi pc gamer and trust the opinions of those I see comment on the vids so came here for help

I recently overclocked my amd fx 8350 to 4.7 but the temps are rubber banding all over the place, now they never get past 53c when I'm playing games but they dont stay steady either. This is particularly annoying because I have to set my fan speed manually because the shooting up and down temps confuses my auto setting so I can hear the pump and fan revving up and down all the time.

AMD FX 8350
Voltage 1.44 give or take a little, with medium loadline cal
22x multi
220 Bus
HT Link 2788

I know thats odd but its the only way I got close to 4.8GHz at a stable clock.
I am using a refurbished NZXT Kraken x41 with an extra fan on the 140mm radiator for a push pull config, didnt feel I was getting enough airflow with just one. Actually still dont feel I am getting enough airflow as the liquid temp usually doesnt drop past 38c.

Is there something anyone can see im doing wrong? I'm kinda getting a trial by fire with overclocking.

Also the noise is terrible at full speed, is that just the v2 fans from nzxt or maybe just the fact on fan and the pump are refurbs. Should I just replace the fans with the noctua ones linus so highly recommends?

Thanks for reply, 53 is the highest package temp according to HWMonitor. The level up and down is like this, in the last minute it has been 40, 43, 28, 33,38, 40, 33 under 2-4% load. Thats why I dont use a curve. I use NZXT CAM software to control my pump and fan and you can only set it in 5c increments so that is out of the question for the +-7 degrees on idle.

Does the fact its package mean anything? I wouldn't be surprised if the cam software is measuring the wrong spot as sometimes it tells me my max temp for the day is 214c(which is the same as my bus speed)

Also to first question, yes there is a difference between gaming, hitting a max load of 57% the temp(package) doesnt go higher than 53c, its still goes up and down but only +-3 degrees which I assume is normal.

extra info, with those random temps at the beginning my cpu temp in HWM has stayed 39c, I have been told that is the socket temp.

Overclock softly, and carry a big radiator......

AMD's temp sensor is not on the core, it located some where far away from the core. They use proximate calculation to report the core temp which result the temp is far off from the real temp (sometimes it report 10C below room temp...).

Wow, that would explain why before I bumped up the clock that my idle temp would sometimes be read as 18c when my room temp was 22c. I guessing there isnt anything I can do about this then? All ok as long as I stay under 58c?
