So I used the Windows 8 Evaluation RTM and now that the Windows License has expired I don't know what to do! I tried to shut off the Windows 8 automatic shutdown but I can't seem to figure it out so now my computer shuts down every hour or so with no warning.

 

So basically what I'm asking is, what should I do about my OS?

yeah but if I do that, how will I keep all my data? I'd have to install a completely new copy of Windows wouldn't I?

You could use an ingenuine Windows 10 install, I don't think it restarts itself. Or a 'activated' but not 'genuine' Windows 10 install.

It should let you just enter the license key somewhere

Pick up a key at the microsoftsoftwareswap subreddit for $20. Copy your data to an external HDD and reinstall windows.

Is that safe? buying something from someone on Reddit doesn't seem legit

Nope. Just get a key from Reddit/r/SoftwareSwap for, like, 15-25 USD.

 

1. Click the Start button

2. Click Settings

3. Click System

4. Click About

5. Click Change product key or upgrade your edition of Windows

6. Click Change product key

7. Enter key

8. Done

3. Click the Slui.exe 0x3 icon

Buy a side panel with a windows key on it from a PC from like IBuyPower. I did that and got a windows 7 key for $4
