Hi people of the LTT forums, i hope you are having a good day!

my question is that later this year (September 2016) I will be joining university doing games design with my friends (same course) and i was wondering whether it would be beneficial for us to have a server to store all our work on as they can get into the tens or even hundreds of gigabytes at one time, so i was wondering;

where do i start with a server?

Would it be able to work wirelessly?

what parts would you recommend (within a budget of around 400 GBP, (543EUR, 588 USD, 819 CAD))?

and what are the benefits of having a server over using local storage?

Many thanks for reading this,

Joeseph Tinkler

i thin what your looking for is a nas ? or storage server ? would you be doing stuff on the server such as rendering out stuff and encoding ? or again would it just be storage ?

just a storage server with fast speeds is all and 24hour on time with super low power consumption is all i need :)

Hi people of the LTT forums, i hope you are having a good day!

You aren't really going to get a proper large NAS for that much, especially if multiple people are going to be accessing it

your best bet is going to be an AM1 based build as far as cheap and low power goes

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?
