Hyper 212 Evo Replacement

Trey222

I am building a system with the Xeon X5650 and plan to heavily overclock it. The 212 Evo is super popular but I am wondering if there are any other coolers that out perform it. My budget is 30-50 US. I am willing to sacrifice noise for more performance.  Thank you for your help.

The step-up from a Hyper 212 will not be too great at this price range. However, something a bit better would be something like the Corsair H50, which is $60. Only other realy alternative is a better air cooler, but even that is only going to offer marginal improvement.

Yes the X5650 gets up to around 4.3-4.6 GHz. The multiplier is locked but the BCLK can be raised to overclock it. Not bad for an old Hex Core.

Dark Rock 3/Pro 3 is by far my favourite air cooler stays whisper quite even at max RPM (2000 RPM) and dissipates 250W of heat and the X5650 has a TDP of 95W

Cryorig H5 and

Shadow Rock 2 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA68V21E0641

Both of these

I dont think that one is as good as the other two posted.

No need to grab a new cooler.

Just swap your fan (or use both by keeping the old one) out with a Gentle Typhoon 1850 RPM fan

If you really don't care about noise (tbh gentle typhoon isn't really "loud", for their insane performance, I'd say their loudness is well justified), grab two of those gentle typhoons, and strap both of them on your Hyper 212 Evo. You'll get great results!

*Sigh*

Some are. Older generations and specific xeons are.
