If I were to install a GTX 970 into my machine with an FX-6300 overclocked to 4.1ghz, will there be a bottleneck on the GPU? And if there is, how much performance would I be losing? this is all theoretical, so power supply and motherboard aren't being discussed here. I just want to know if I should theoretically upgrade the FX-6300 if I got a 970, and to what? Best performance per dollar?

I would upgrade cpu to a i5 4460 the fx 6300 is pretty weak and it will bottleneck

Thank you.

An upgrade to the i5-4460 would be good, but the 6300 should be enough to not bottleneck too hard, what I mean by that is that you will lose a couple of frames on average, but in triple-A titles it should be sufficient to keep the 970 @99% of usage all the time

It's mostly fine. FX 6300 = i3 4170
