Hi LTT community!

I just got my new rig yesterday and it's bugging me as it is lagging pretty badly when I'm just idling even. I would try just randomly moving the mouse pointer around and it would lag at random. After opening the task manager, it shows that my CPU is running at 3-8% load so no reason for that to happen at all!

My system:

Asus A170-A

i5-6600K @ 3.5ghz (stock)

G.Skill RipJaws 2400 8gb

Sapphire R9 390 (stock)

Coolermaster V850W

Noctua DH-15 for CPU (temp averages at 40 degree C)

Master Drive - Samsung SSD M.2 250GB (10% storage used up)

Slave 1 - Samsung 7200rpm 500GB (split into 2 drives, both almost completely used up)

Slave 2 - Seagate 7200rpm 2TB (havent been used yet)

Please help! Thank you!

Betting one testicle that this'll boil down to incompatible RAM or bad RAM settings.

But its your last one!!! Ooh, burn... ._. Erm, sorry. Please disregard that. >.> Im sure your genitals are intact and symmetrical.

Don't do drugs. Do hugs!

Mine are fine. Hanging loose, feeling fine, sticking to my left thigh at the moment. But I actually know a guy that had to have one of his testicles removed and I started calling him 'sack' and it stuck among our friends and now I feel so sorry about starting it. He's one of my dearest friends and he's been awesome (actually awe-inspiring) about his illness and me being an asshole and everything.

how is it incompatible? Im sure the motherboard is capable of running DDR4 ram sticks. So what is a bad RAM setting? I haven't OC or tune anything at all to the RAM. Everything is factory stock settings.

I had a similar issue yesterday. For me it turned out that it was just my mouse plugged in too loose, causing it to move weird. Try unplugging it and putting it back in.

Glad you solved yours. For me I tried 2 different mice and still the problem persists..

You made fun of a sick man for only having one testicle, and got him stuck with the nickname "sack"? Thats passed being an asshole, thats just fucked up man... On behalf of all of humanity, and i do think i speak for all of humanity when i say this, "FU".

Simply put, it's not compatible with all the 2400MHz DDR4 sticks in the existence. It is compatible with some and it isn't with some others. Asus has a list of tested and known good RAM kits. It's called a Qualified Vendor List or QVL. The test report is available on the Asus website. On the other hand, G.Skill can always test which of their sticks work with that Asus board. They have their own list here. If you can see your exact part number in either of those lists, you're almost golden.

Which is where the settings come in. Your RAM doesn't run at 2400MHz inherently, it has to be overclocked to do so. The stock speed for DDR4 is either 2133MHz or 1866MHz. Anyhoo... You need to enter the BIOS and input the RAM settings. The DRAM Speed, the DRAM Voltage and the first four values for DRAM Timing. They should be printed on the sticks.

update BIOS

You shouldn't update your BIOS unless there is a real reason to. I have seen many people running to problems after updating.

Desktop: i5 4670k, Z97-K, 16GB, MSI GTX 770, Evga 850G2, TT T31

Freenas Server: i3 4170, X10-SLL-F-O, Crucial 16GB UDIMM, 4x4TB WD Red, Evga 550GS, Fractal 804

Peripheral: K60, HyperX Cloud

Mobile: Nexus 6P

I know blah blah. But it may help this guy. If not it was worth a try. Also if 90% of people that updated their bios got into problems then they wouldn't have bios updating.

hi guys

thanks for the replies. there are some really cool info here provided. anyways it just so happens that the mice i tested on wasn't compatible with the surface i was using them on...and the original mouse which i used to use on the same surface had no problem, apparently just acted weird after i switched from windows 7 to 10. Sorry it's just a noob thing on my part so Naese, you can still keep your testicle  :)
