Deciding on a GPU

The 860k won't bottleneck the 750ti at all. You could go up to a 960/970 without a bottleneck.

The GT 740 is shit, and if you can just go with the 750ti (also better in the long run).

Do you already have the rest of the components?

EDIT: follow your threads and use the quote button.

So I'm deciding on what GPU to use for my first PC build. It's looking to be a sub 450$ build, and I'm looking into Nvidia B/c I want ShadowPlay. I don't really intend to play that intense games (Mainly Minecraft, Rivals of AEther, Portal, and the like) so I don't need a hardcore GPU. I'm mainly debating between the GT 740 and GTX 750ti. I'm leaning towards the GT 740 because I'm concerned my processor (AMD Athlon X4 860k) might bottleneck the 750ti, and because I don't know if I need the graphical prowess of the 750ti. The rest of my system consists of an A78M E35 V2 MoBo, 600Watt PSU (A bit overkill, but it was on sale for the same price as the 500Watt I intended to get), 1TB MediaMax HDD, Intel 320 series 160GB SSD, 8GB Crucial Balistix Sport, and A full size ATX case. Which do you think I should go for? If you have other suggestions, I'm open to those as well.

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure the GT 740 won't be able to use Shadowplay, or atleast I wasn't able to when I had a GT730.

Take the 750ti.

750ti all the way. Im not sure if the gt 740 even supports ShadowPlay and the 860k is enough for a 750ti in 99% of games.

I just built a $500 USD machine for my parents, including monitor for 99.99 and went with a GT 730 for my little brother who play's Path of Exile, because he uses that computer too. you can check that out, its a reasonably graphically intense games and the card performs well. Its seems like an especially good deal for 70 or so dollars I paid for it. If you are a hardcore gamer (or sort of) or want it to last a while, got for the 750ti, even if you upgrade other components later, this one will last you a good while and performs FANTASTICALLY on older titles and decently well on newer ones. You will be able to use is longer and its a good card with a good history, worth the extra $30 - $50 USD.

 750Ti.

Your Athlon X4 is still a quite capable CPU and won't bottleneck even beefier card than that one.

Also, I've never heard of MediaMax...

Thanks for the help, I have the Case, PSU, HDD, SSD, CPU, RAM, and MoBO. Basicly everything but the GPU.

Neither have I. I just bought a cheap HDD for budget reasons. Hopefully It'll work out.

The 860k will be fine with a GTX 750 Ti. I'd go 750 Ti since it's about 2.5x as powerful for about 67% higher cost ($100 vs $60). You'd be getting way more value for your money with a 750 Ti.
