Any reason for preferring Nvidia do you have a Shield device for instance and do you need a monitor?

No particular reason for Nvidia, my laptop had AMD amd i figuired that i could go for Nvidia this time because i am needing something for art/gaming/animation, but i am open for suggestions.

And yes i do need a monitor but i could use my TV for the time being, just want a computer since i donated my laptop to my mother so she could have a working device for her daily things.

I really just want a rig that can play comfotably at 60fps at 1080p without much dipping in frames when i game, i notice the little changes in fps to a certain point, mainly dropping below 60fps.

Spend the rest of your money on a good display, something 1440p or higher is preferred

Generally with graphic card there isn't much to see unless you care about sheild devices or really really like GeForce experience, most of the time performance is king with graphic cards. The 970 is not too bad compared the R9 390 and matches it perfromamce in many games, but the R9 390 is cheaper sometimes and beats it higher resolutions.

But, it really drains more energy when heavily usef, so I would say the 970 is the way, it will save you more money on the electricity then a 390.

The energy difference under a gaming load really isn't worth worrying about, the 390 is far and away the better choice due to potentially better DX12/Vulkan support, higher performance overall, but mostly you save a good deal of money with a free-sync display vs a G-sync display

I want to thank you all for the advice that you have given, but after i posted this i was offered free parts from a coworker that i was talking to about the build in casual conversation and am getting the parts later today, so i will update with what i have gotten and see where this fortuitus event leads.

okay, i got the parts and i needed some help in finding something i can upgrade on it.

the processor is an AMD A4 5300 APU

the motherboard is an ASUS A55BM-E micro ATX motherboard

and it has 4GB of ram

a 350GB HDD with windows 8.1

and a cheap case and stock fan for the processor

I was wanting to get a GPU for this and a new case, motherboard and more RAM.

Is there a standard ATX motherboard that i can use instead of the micro atx board, and what GPU should i get, the same budget as before still applies between 600-800 dollars any advice and information would be greatly appreciated.

What happened to the other budget? Why did you get that PC?

my suggestion is still going to be the same as a month ago, though I need to swap that board for an H97 board in the build

This was completely free from a coworker, and this topic was only made a few days ago, and for the time being I'm trying to save as much as I can, so I took them up on their offer for free parts.

Ah, well, there's not much worth reusing there, the motherboard is really low end and I wouldn't trust a higher wattage CPU in there like the 860K

also for 600 bucks, here ya go

Yeah, but the 380 cant play games at 1440p though? I noticed around the forum you prefer to spend a lot on a monitor when it's not even worth it.

It's for productivity, a 1440p is leagues ahead of a 1080p display in what you can fit on screena

as far as gaming goes a 380 should be alright at 1440p, I ran games at 1440p fine on my 7850

  • 2 weeks later...

UPDATE:

I went looking up the parts listed here and some of them i had trouble finding, i made some PC part picker lists but was wanting some opinions on the selections

here is the cheaper one that i was able to come up with,  http://pcpartpicker.com/p/WW3jwP

and here is the second one that is a little more expensive,  http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Lucifair/saved/XVGQzy

I do need to buy an OS since i do not have one that i can use, and these include a monitor and keyboards, and advice on swapping out some of the parts for cheaper/better ones would be appreciated.
