my i5 4460, with out doing anything, is at 82 c. is that safe? what should i do. it is stock cooler/thermal paste

If that is idle, re-seat the cooler with new thermal paste that is way too hot.

Tha is quite high for a cpu that is on idle. It may be the thermal paste. You might have put too little

if you have the money, go with a cooler master hyper 212 evo.

 

If not buy some thermal paste if it is a stock cooler.

You could replace the stock thermal paste, but it will definitely not be as effecxtive as getting a new cooler. Try reseating the cooler first, and making sure the termal paste makes a nice seal between your cpu and cooler.

Well with those temps it's for sure a bad mount you can get some new thermal paste to try and remount, make sure the 4 push pins and turned in the correct direction for installation. As others have said though it will not cool as well as an aftermarket cooler though.

More times then not I find that High temps are because of a bad seat when you put the cpu in the socket. Thermal compound could also be the culprit though.

You should probably get new thermal paste and maybe put some more fans in your pc if you dont have enough.

my god, 82 degrees idle. one of the mounting brackets must be loose or something.
