Repurpose/Upgrade Build - Need Help/Opinion

ventus0907

Hi,

I wanted to give my brother a good gaming PC but we don't have a lot of budget for it. So I decided to re-purpose/upgrade a pre-built system that we bought last year.

It's and HP Pavilion with AMD Processor. I'm new in terms of building a PC but I know fair amount when it comes to computer.

The system has:

Processor: AMD A-10 6800K

RAM: 10 GB (could be 1 8GB and 1 2GB sitck)

GPU: Not sure (but definitely not good enough)

Motherboard: Some MB (lol)

Storage: WD Caviar blue 1 TB

Case: Some Case (lol)

PSU: Some PSU (lol)

I checked online and I found out that it has a decent Processor, so I went ahead and check some parts to upgrade the system.

So far this is the list I got

http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/ryanpeds/saved/N6NMnQ

so on that list the parts that I would be purchasing is:

GPU (Highest Priority)

CPU Cooler

SSD (if have some budget left)

Motherboard (if Needed)

Case (not a priority)

would this be good enough to play games?

He wants to play Batman: Arkham Knight, Fallout 4, Black Ops 3, Witcher 3 (I know this might sound crazy)

goal is decent game play not needed to be the ultra settings for those games.

Any input and tips is greatly appreaciated :)

960 or 370 would be good I think, case isn`t interesting, maybe down the road. Would spend money on samsung SSD and PSU

EDIT: and a hyper212 evo

to game or not to game, that`s the question

Be careful with that CPU cooler. It's pretty tall. OEM case might not have enough room to put the side panel on.

IF you're going to buy new ram, buy 1866mhz at least. APUs love faster RAM.

Don't get the Kingston V300. They used to be good, but are terrible now.

AMD GPU also has the most bang for the buck right now. Something like an r9 380.

i7 4790k | GTX 970 | 16GB

That's all you need to know. It's a beast.

for the cooler if it won't fit the side panel, either we will leave that open or tried to find a cheap case that it can fit.

Planning to stick with the RAM that we have but we'll see.

any recommendations for the SSD and GPU (and 2GB or 4GB?)

I don`t really know honestly, I have a MSI GTX 970 4gb and it`s doing great, Witcher 3 is easy to run, so idk

But if you`re thinking about an AMD one, I would go with the 390 or 390X if it`s in your budget

For a budget SSD, any Sandisk is good. Crucial is good too. Samsung is the best, but it is also more expensive.

If you can get a 4gig card, do it.
