Greetings,

Here's my current set up;

TeamGroup Elite Black 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit
EVGA 600W 80 Plus Bronze Power Supply (100-B1-0600-KR)

Core i5-4690K 3.50GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor
Z97-K Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
Samsung Evo 850 250GB SSD

I decided to upgrade from my old system,

I replaced, my mobo, cpu, hdd (with an ssd) and ram, only having my PSU from my old build. I bought all of my new components from Overclockers uk.

After installing my new mobo, cpu and only inserting 1 piece of ram, I tried to firstly install Windows 10 64bit with a genuine key from CD.

The installation shut down during right after "Copying windows files" (I did a custom install, clean).

So I decided to try from a USB, the same problem, I tried Linux 64, win7 64bit, all had the exact same problem.

However, just messing about, I put my old HDD back in, tried again, and had the same problem as above, I then tried to install windows 7 32bit and it installed without issues and then removed the HDD, as the PC began to shut down after about a minute on win32 bit.

I did however, download realtemp to monitor the CPU temps on windows 32 bit, all temps were reasonable, under 30c, but still shut down.
When the computer restarted again, all the downloads and changed made to windows weren't saved once I restarted. I have not loaded windows 32 bit on my machine again.

Does anyone know what I could do to start troubleshooting the problem? I have tried following many guides and tutorials and asking for help and the problem persists no matter what I seem to do.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you. If you require any information feel free to ask and I would provide as much as I can.

What do you mean by Shutting Down?

Like hard shutdown?

Everything turns off suddenly, instant black screen?

By the way, that's a terrible quality PSU.

It sounds like there is something that is unstable, possibly power delivery. All the parts were brand new? Even if so, clear the CMOS and try again.

How long have you had that PSU and did you have it maxed out/close to its max with your old system? Do you have a different PSU that you can swap in to test?

Check the capacitors on the mobo and make sure that nothing has shorted out.

EDIT: @Lukep123 Make sure to always follow any threads that you start.

I was thinking that but I have double checked everything. I was told the problem may lie with the PSU, also considering it was the only part I never replaced.

The PSU is 12 months old and wasn't used too much, however, the PC was on idle for 24 hours at some points.

I will try and get hold of a PSU to swap and test and follow the rest of your advice and get back to you if I made any progress. Thank you.

Complete shut down, the whole PC just turns off, everything stops, no errors, just suddenly turns off.

The PSU had no problems on my old build, which I used days ago, so I didnt imagine it would be a problem to use it until I got funds to buy a better one, however, maybe it is a problem.

I'm pretty lost on the reason behind the shut downs, I can leave the PC in the bios for hours without shut down, it installed 32 bit fine, however, at the exact same point of every windows installation, after every try - the PC shuts down at the exact same point, which is reasonably not too complex, but it randomly shutting down during idle on Windows is confusing. I'm not sure what else to do really.

I guess the BIOS is set into UEFI mode and you are trying to install the OS on the MBR partition.

I had the same problem while doing the installation, it shutsdown at some point (after copying files).

If your BIOS not set into UEFI mode, please set it to UEFI mode. and Secure Boot as Enabled.

Then follow this.

Download and run Rufus software.

Insert your USB,

Select your USB from "Device" in the software menu,

Select GPT Partition scheme for UEFI computer,

Select the Windows ISO image in the little CD icon,

And then start the process. Your USB drive will be formatted and copied with Windows Installation files in it.

Then try to boot.

It should work.

Don't missout to select GPT Partition scheme for UEFI computer. This is important.

Then boot the USB drive, normal proceedings just like old one.

Select Custom Install.

Here now you have to delete all the partition by clicking "drive options", because you gotta set the boot drive to GPT partition (if you have any other drives other than boot drives attached to the system, please remove it before beginning the process)

Then delete all the partition (make sure to backup the data, if you want any).

It should be only one as "Drive 0: Unallocated Space".

Then Click New under drive options, click Ok, then next.

Then try to proceed with normal installation procedures.

It should work, I guess.

Post back with results.

I actually thought it was going to work, it got to the next stage and hit 46%, however, shut down again.

It has began to randomly shut down before the installation begins now sometimes.

Do you have another HDD or SSD to check with?

May be it's the drive fault? But I'm not sure.

I have tried with multiple HDDs and SSDs, with one HDD and SSD being brand new. The same issue persists with both.

Alright, You can try this.

If you have an old system, Take the SSD from the new system and plug it to old system, proceed the installation procedure as I mentioned in the previous post.

After this procedure, It'll say that it's going to restart the computer within 10 seconds.

At this moment, when the computer turns off (and it'll restart, just unplug the power). Unplug that SSD from that old PC and plug it into the new computer.

And boot the SSD in the new system, It'll continue the installation in the new system.

It may go fine I guess.

I don't really have another system to do such but I'll try and find a way to try it.

I still can't figure out what's the problem.

If you can find any alternate system, please do the one I posted previously and post back here with results.

Have already tried that, with different HDDs and SSDs and followed your guide. Still no luck.
