I've been noticing some of the problems for awhile now, and more and more pop up. I've posted on the individual applications various sites for help, but the problem no longer seems specific to any one program. I primarily do my work in Cockos Reaper, Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro, all of which I have experienced UI issues in. In Reaper, sometimes the UI will disappear/go black. In After Effects, I'll go from one composition to another one, and either it won't display anything in the view (just black) or it'll display a image from a totally different project that's not even open! In Premiere Pro, sometimes when I'm scrubbing through the footage it'll no longer play in the viewer, it'll just remain still without changing the video at all.

Even in games I have been finding more and more issues. Heroes of Newerth: my cursor disappears. I can still click around in the menu/in-game, but there is no cursor so I don't know where my mouse is. Battlefront is now experiencing some issues as well: when I start it, it starts on a black screen and I have to alt-tab-window key and click back in the window to get it to display. But sometimes when I alt tab out of it: it just goes to black, and the only way for me to get it to display something is RESTART MY MONITOR (a Dell U2414H which isn't really displaying issues with anything else).

Outside of THOSE two things: just random apps and the desktop itself display signs of issues. When in VLC media player, when I double-click to go fullscreen it takes a little bit, and then the controls dont show up. They are there, just invisible or something, I can click them but they do not visually appear. Sometimes when I go from fullscreen to windowed it goes all black until I go out of it. Skype sometimes has remnants of other windows that were over it stuck on its UI. The desktop sometimes displays icons on the taskbar in the wrong place (or UNDERNEATH the Windows home button on the left).

What could possibly be going on? I've updated and uninstalled all things imaginable. Did a clean install of the video drivers using DDU. The Reaper and desktop issues have been going on for a while, the After Effects/VLC/Battlefront issues are all recent things that have started happening. Any ideas? I'm desperate now.

Try shutting off ALL the overclocks you have on every single component. This includes any overclocks on monitors, CPU, gpu, and ram.

Oh you adjusted the BCLK a little... You should definitely turn that off. On all CPUs except for the new skylakes and ones before sandy bridge the BCLK is linked to things such as pcie lane timings as well, that can cause a lot of issues. Change it back from 100.16 to 100.

I'm using ASUS AI Suite 3, I tried manually changing settings when I built the system initially, but had some trouble getting a simple, stable setup. I know I should probably be doing it manually but I was right in the middle of work and never have time to learn more about how to do it correctly. For the longest time, I couldn't get my system to recognize all the ram, and at the correct speeds. I posted on here before about it but there never was a solution. I'm pretty sure I just ended up resetting everything one last time, going with the first working settings that posted and then used AI Suite to get things going. Here's my settings in AI Suite now, I tried changing the BCLK down to 100, but it just goes up to 100.2.

That's what I was thinking, less likely the monitor though because I use two, and all the same issues happen with that one (minus the Battlefront thing because it isn't my main monitor). But my GPU isn't OCed or anything,

If you can't get it to change you can try resetting the CMOS. Basically just find the silver battery on your mobo and remove it for a few minutes then put it back in.

Tried it, no dice. Here's the thing: my system for whatever reason is kind of volatile. I reset the CMOS or factory default my BIOS, it won't post. On my X99-USB3.1 mobo, I believe the error code it stops at before restarting is 4F. The only way for me to fix this is I hit the MemOK! button and let it try and figure out a new ram configuration. Usually, the one it lands on is dead wrong. It'll do two sticks at 1800mhz or something like that and like 2gb (but the sticks are 8GB each with a rating of 2800MHz). But it'll at least let me go to the BIOS once it stops resetting and giving me the 4F code on the mobo. I can then fool around with a couple settings and get the memory to read at 2800MHz and have it read all 4 sticks with all the right amounts. So I tend to shy away from resetting too many settings because it is SUCH a hassle to get it to even post again. I've done a couple threads on this forum before for those issues, but never got them truly resolved, hence my resorting to using AI Suite 3 to handle the configurations of the hardware.

But those problems aside, anyone think it's a hardware issue causing the UI thing, or a software issue of some sort? Maybe my memory timing settings be messed up and therefore messing with my GPU in the first PCI lane?

I uninstalled AI Suite 3 and reset the CMOS via the jumper and then did the battery for good measure. Computer as usual wouldn't post immediately afterwards, had to press the MemOK! button and wait for the system to find a working memory setup. I've attached two pics to show what the cpu and ram are looking like right now. Is it odd that the BCLK is 100.2 and the cpu is running at 3.7 instead of the base 3.5?

It is fine for the CPU to be running at 3.7, that is its turbo boost speed. However, it is a little strange the BCLK is at 100.2... For me it is always right below 100 when I set it to 100, so it usually shows up as like 99.8 and fluctuates a little. Also how are you getting the memory to go to 2800 MHz? The easy way is just to enable XMP, which just sets it to whatever the ram is rated for. You could be accidentally touching some settings that shouldn't be touched while trying to get it to 2800 MHz. As well, you could try resetting the CMOS and leaving the ram at its normal speed and see how that goes. That might be a pain though, so you could try finding all the stuff you changed and changing them back.

Interestingly enough, resetting the CMOS and leaving the ram at whatever the comp suggests doesn't really work. The first time I tried this, it didn't read the third slot with ram in it, only detected 24gb instead of 32. When I did get it to recognize all four (by doing the MemOK! button on my mobo again), it read the right amount of memory, but had enabled the XMP profile for 3000MHz, and set the BCLK to 125MHz, iirc. The XMP profile will do that whenever I put it to the 2800MHz profile, as well. It changes more than just the ram settings.

Edit: Took some pictures of what I get after resetting the CMOS and letting it reconfigure everything. Interesting that it's reading the memory wrong, it says 2133MHz instead of 2800MHz, is that normal? I appreciate anyone and everyone for taking a look and trying to help me, this has been plaguing me for a long time now.

You could try updating the bios, as your bios seems to acting weird.

Another thing you might want to try is just putting in one ram stick at a time to see if any sticks are faulty.

Were the problems still there after you changed the ram to the 3000 MHz? As I can see there that the BCLK was at 99.9, which is fine.

Tried taking out the ram. Put one in at a time and tried multiple boots. All but one stick were successful, so I've left that one out. The strange thing is: the other three don't seem to play well together at all, in any configuration. I tried two at a time, in slots 3 and 5 (as the mobo manual suggests), and tried three at a time, and then tried both of those ways in random slots instead of the recommended. None of them seem to work together. I don't know if this is of any importance, but the QCodes on the mobo were different each time it failed. For the most part, it seemed to deal with the PCI bus or IO stuff. The ones I got the most were:

95(PCI Bus Request Resources)

96(PCI Bus Assign Resources)

97(Console Output devices connect)

98(Console input devices connect)

99(Super IO Initialization)

Right now, I'm running on a single 8gb stick. Here's some shots of the bios on the current settings. what could the problem possibly be?

So then the issues were gone when you only put one stick of ram in?

I noticed one thing... For that one screenshot you took it had the ram running at 14-15-15-33 for the timings, while on newegg it says it is 16-18-18-36. You could try putting in more than one stick and manually setting the timings to that.

That one ram stick might be broken though, you may have to send the ram back for RMA.

Yeah, I've tried tuning them to the one recommended but never had any luck, always had to run them lower. Started Memtest last night, set it to 10 passes just to be safe but right now it's on pass 3, been running just about 8 hours. Found 3 errors: two during test 6, one during test 9. What does that mean? Here's the results:MemTest86-Report-20160109-014427.pdf

It is even possible you have some bad ram... Is there any ram that you could try out? Does a friend have ddr4 ram you can try? It's probably unlikely since most people have ddr3 ram but if you can find a friend with ddr4 ram you could ask them if you could borrow one stick of ram and test it.

We're the UI issues still there with only one stick of ram in?

I am not an expert on ram, so you could try posting about the ram issues and see if anyone else has ideas.

Luckily someone on /r/techsupport could read the results and give me an idea of what it was, I'll post his response here in case it'll help others.

"# Tests Passed 33/35 (94%) Lowest Error Address 0x846AB608 (2118MB) Highest Error Address 0x866AB5E8 (2150MB)

Looks like you have a bad stick of ram. Based on the address (~2.1GB), it should be the one in slot 0

DIMM Slot #0 8GB DDR4 XMP PC4-23900 / CMK32GX4M4A2800C16 16-18-18-39 / 1499 MHz / 1.350V

If the other sticks were bad, you'd have errors falling within the other 8GB ranges (eg. stick 0 <= 8192MB, stick 1 > 8192MB <= 16384MB, etc..). "

The funny thing is, that stick wasn't one I suspected of being bad, so I took it out and will run another memtest tonight on just the other one I suspected of malfunction and post back with results. So it seems like my problem was the combination of two things: not enough power/wrong settings for the ram, and a bad stick (possibly two). Going to spend some time now testing just the two sticks of good ram and try to replicate any of the issues I had. Will report back tonight if anything happens and after I test the final stick of ram.

What options do I have for getting the two bad ones replaced, other than just buying new ones? I purchased these off Newegg back in July so it's been too long for an RMA, wish I would've known how to properly test the ram back then so I could've caught it earlier.

I am not sure as I have never had to send a product back... It says you can't refund or replace it anymore but the warranty says lifetime on newegg so you probably can still return it since it seems to be faulty.

You could just post somewhere else asking about the return policy.

Gotta suck to find out one of your components is actually faulty.

Welp. I have returned, simply to say: it's still happening. The Battlefront issue, Reaper UI and Windows taskbar issues are still happening. I'm only using the two sticks of ram that passed the test, as well. I'm really at a loss, everything seemed fine at first but it's issues as usual now. What the hell is going on...

I went ahead and did a desktop capture because I realized it would be more helpful than just showing more screenshots. Pay attention to the taskbar's behavior, and then I try to select the window and resize it or move it and it's unresponsive, eventually freezing and I have to force it shut in Task manager.

Wow. Seeing this I am sure it probably isn't a gpu or monitor issue, but a CPU, ram, or motherboard issue. Have you tried running the ram test again with just those two sticks?

This is very strange indeed..
