Fallout 4 Performance

Go to solution Solved by Monarch,

ah now that kinda answers some things, first download the shadow lod fix for fallout 4, there are some issues with shadows being rendered very far away for no reason and trashing your fps, i tend to run stable 60 but if i look at a direction it just crashes and from what i learned recently thats due to this shadow problem, very much worth looking for atleast when it comes to fallout and this problem.

Just for the record, shadows are not being rendered "very far away for no reason". People are quick to judge and point fingers, but it's not developer's fault. Most CPUs are not able to cope with so much shadows because they're not powerful enough, and also due to the inefficient DX11 API.

I can't find the fix lol. Could you please link me?

Simply reduce shadow distance to medium.

Hi! So I just built my PC and it is awesome! It has a 4590, 8GB of RAM, and a Sapphire R9 380 4GB. I wanted to play Fallout and I used MSi Afterburner to see the temps and usages of my system during gaming. FPS in Diamond City can drop down to 24 fps. When looking at a wall or at the ground it goes back up to 60. My GPU usage can go up to 100% but it fluctuates between 0% and 100%. The clock speed of the GPU is usually around 670-750 mhz instead of my slight 1035 OC. Temperatures are fine. Oh, and I installed the game on my 1TB 7200RPM WD Blue. Is there something wrong? Why isn't it performing well?

Thank you so much! I hope I didn't waste my money on this GPU lol.

in the past i used evga precision to check temps and usage... the damn program made my usage suck and games run like shit.. try turning afterburner off, otherwise might very well be your psu, tho unless its old it should not be that

Its similar without Afterburner(used Fraps). PSU is 620W so its fine. Reviewers say an i7 and 380 use 350 watts.

its not always about power, i had a old corsair TX750W psu, it did not run my 2 780´s and that would be around 650W´s i think, the problem i got was low gpu usage and no speed, everyone said it was something else, but after trying stuff and wanting to get a new psu since that one was nearly 5 years old everything worked just fine, im guessing it was more about how much power it could push to the gpu alone rather than total watts it could do.

Ah! Excellent :D I knew it had to do with rendering something. I'll try the fix. Thanks!

Just for the record, shadows are not being rendered "very far away for no reason". People are quick to judge and point fingers, but it's not developer's fault. Most CPUs are not able to cope with so much shadows because they're not powerful enough, and also due to the inefficient DX11 API.

Can't wait for DX12 lol. Ok, I'll reduce it. Thanks!

Hey! I did your tweaks and the game runs nicely at a locked 60 now! I figured out why the GPU doesnt run at full speed. Its because the game is locked to 60. Thanks m8!
