and why is it so bad?

Poor soldiering, Cheap and Bad crappy capacitors.

Don't cheap on selecting PSU.

 

It's the most important component on your system.

This has been stated by a shit ton of people before they fried their hardware, not sure if you would want to count yourself into that circle... the one that cheaps out deliberately on a PSU deserves to struggle.
